Selected works available via Sobering Galerie Paris

Vanessa Luschmanns work focuses on the vulnerability of the individual and society, reflecting the human being in a fragile world characterized by crises, uncertainty and constant struggle with the own inner demons. She uses autobiographical material and transforms it into a portrayal of contemporary times and the state of a generation through her perspective, offering the viewer solidarity in the shared feeling of vulnerability.

Difficult topics, often hidden behind bright colors and humorous details, are dealt within a coexistence of tragedy, comedy and absurdity. With dark, hermetic compositions, she creates works that evoke a profound isolation of her subjects: Profane, rather inconspicuous scenes suggest a deeper meaning and ask about the before or after of what is shown. People are kept at a distance and lost in their own thoughts. Even deserted images convey the vulnerability of the subjects who left their mark there.

Her motifs are carefully arranged and yet not sole reflections of reality, but rather a condensation of it. As silent observers of what is happening, they do not offer answers to the burning issues of our time - instead the search for them becomes the actual goal.
